Haugalandet and the town centre Haugesund can offer you an experience of the Norwegian History back to the famous Vikings and earlier.  The region also offer a broad spectrum of natural beauty ranging from a vast and wild coastline to snow capped mountains with cascading waterfalls melting into the fjords. Haugesund and Haugalandet is also a buoyant centre for cultural events and outdoor activities.

Haugesund - Regional centre
Haugesund is a town dating back to Viking times, but is today looked upon as young and vibrant and as one of Norway’s most popular congress and festival towns. Teeming with life day and night throughout the summer, Smedasundet Sound is at the very heart of Haugesund. Stroll along the quayside and take in the fresh sea air or stop for a coffee or bite at any of Smedasundet’s many cafés and restaurants.

The coast
Situated south west of Haugesund is Norway’s most densely populated island, Karmøy. Here you can visit Norway’s summer town Skudeneshavn, the beautiful white beaches at Åkrahamn and Rogaland’s millennium focal point at Avaldsnes. Røvær and Utsira are two smaller islands located off the coast of Haugesund. Here you can experience rich coastal environments and heritage, including one of the best bird-watching possibilities in Norway at Utsira.

The fjords
20 minutes inland from Haugesund you can explore our fjords. Overlooking the fjords you may enjoy many hiking trails through scenic terrain in Tysvær and Etne. Vindafjord is renowned for its crystal clear lakes and rivers, and offers one of the best salmon and trout rivers in Norway. At the end of the Bokna Fjord there is a small town called Sauda. The town has great natural surroundings and offers beautiful waterfalls, tall mountains and excellent skiing facilities.
